Top 5 cafés in El Nido, Palawan
El Nido, Palawan, is known for its stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters, but it also boasts some delightful cafés perfect for a relaxing break between island hopping adventures. Everywhere I travel, local café scene is one of the things I look for because I’m a sucker for a great local coffee shop. This ranking is based on the quality of food & drinks, location, aesthetics, views it offers, and overall vibes. Most cafés in El Nido offer WiFi for those who are looking to get some work done while having coffee. Whether you’re craving a hearty breakfast, a refreshing drink, or a cozy spot to unwind, here are the top five cafés you shouldn’t miss during your visit to El Nido.
1. Hama Coffee
Hama Coffee is a true gem for coffee lovers. This cozy café offers expertly brewed coffee sourced from local beans, making it a perfect spot to kickstart your day. Their menu also features a variety of pastries and light bites, ideal for enjoying with a steaming cup of joe. What sets Hama apart is its breathtaking view of the beach, providing the perfect backdrop for a relaxing morning or afternoon, if you will. The warm, inviting atmosphere makes it a great place to unwind and soak in the local vibe.
2. PLNT+HRVST
For health-conscious travelers, PLNT+HRVST is a must-visit. It is located in Lio beach which is close to the airport. This plant-based café serves up delicious vegan and vegetarian dishes that are both nutritious and satisfying.
I was pleasantly surprised by the creative twists they put on traditional Filipino dishes, transforming them into delightful vegan options. From smoothie bowls to hearty grain bowls, their menu is packed with fresh ingredients and bold flavors.
The minimalist decor and chill vibe make it a great spot to recharge after a day of adventure. I consider this place as the best plant-based restaurant I’ve ever been to. Many options to choose from and the service is impeccable. Not only that, they also promote local products and even offer historical books including a book about dirty ice cream history in the country. Dirty ice cream is a nickname for the traditional Filipino ice cream known as sorbetes. It's often sold by street vendors in colorful wooden pushcarts and served in wafer or sugar cones, or as a sandwich in pandesal bread.
Must try: ube latte, stir-fried noodles, sizzling tofu & mushroom sisig, and most importantly their chocolate cake (one of the best I’ve ever had!)
3. Hayahay
Hayahay is a Filipino term that means “calm,” “chill,” or “take it easy type of attitude” and this pretty much describes what Hayahay café is all about. It is the perfect blend of laid-back beach vibes and delicious food.
Located near the shore, this café offers a menu filled with tasty Filipino and international dishes. They pride themselves on using locally grown and sourced coffee from all over the Philippines, ensuring each cup is flavorful and supports local farmers and as a mocha lover, they serve the best in the island.
The relaxed atmosphere, combined with their refreshing cocktails and smoothies, makes it an ideal spot to unwind after a day in the sun. Enjoy a meal while taking in the beautiful views of the ocean!
4. Happiness Beach Bar
Situated in the heart of El Nido town, Happiness Beach Bar radiates good vibes and offers healthy homemade Mediterranean-Middle Eastern fusion dishes with authentic flavors, all made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
This lively café offers a diverse menu that includes both local and international dishes. Enjoy their fresh seafood and tropical drinks while lounging in their beachside seating. The friendly staff and chill ambiance make it a fantastic spot to hang out with friends or meet fellow travelers.
5. Lazy Hammock Cafe
For a truly relaxing experience, head to Lazy Hammock Cafe. With its laid-back atmosphere and comfortable hammocks, it’s the perfect place to kick back and enjoy a good book or simply savor the moment.
Their menu features a variety of breakfast options, smoothies, and light snacks, all made with fresh ingredients. While they serve Lavazza coffee—which is decent—it's not the best choice for someone seeking locally sourced coffee. When I visited, there was a friendly dog that added to the welcoming atmosphere, making it an even more enjoyable place to relax. It’s an oasis of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of El Nido.
Final Thoughts
There are other coffee shops in the area and given that I had limited time when I was there, I wasn’t able to try more places. If I’d go back, I’d definitely try the others. Please do not limit your options to just these 5 and also please prioritize local coffee shops. El Nido’s café scene is as vibrant and diverse as its natural beauty. Each of the spots offers a unique experience, whether you’re looking for a quick snack or a leisurely meal. So, take a break from the sun and sea, and treat yourself to some of the best cafés El Nido has to offer. You won’t regret it!
